    What does '$j:$j' mean here:
    =SUMIF(sheet2!$H:$H,sheet1!$d3,sheet2!$J$J)

It's actually an error because it doesn't have a : between the 2 $Js. If it was sheet2!$J:$J, it would mean sheet 2 column J.

The $ prefix indicates that this is an 'absolute' value. Check out the Excel online Help file for more details.
