New HP photosmart fails to align cartridges

Just out of the box, installed HP photrosmart 6510 using XP on an HP PC. when I went to align ink cartridges got a failure message. when I test printed some docs and photos it worked fine just once after that could not print any ordinary doc, no ink or just very faded..
Cleaned print heads several times - the test sheet came out OK but still can't print black, color photos come out but very pale.
what to do?

 

Take it back to the store or call HP is what I would do.

 

I agree. Sounds like it's defective.

 

Yikes, not what I was wanting to do. I got it on Amazon, this is a tedious deal, maybe I should get the Epson all-in one. This HP is cool in design.

 

As with many things in life, looks are NOT everything.
