Son and daughter-in-law live in Japan. Some time ago he sent an e-mail with their address in Kanji. I added it to a Word document which had their address in English so I could print shipping labels and envelopes that the Japanese letter-carriers could read easily.

Without warning, after using the document for a couple of years, the Kanji characters all disappeared, leaving small squares behind. I haven't been able to recreate them, even when I downloaded the originals from the e-mail again.

I think the character set used was Unicode 8, but I can't find any reference to it in Word (I have Office 2003). Does anyone know how to get printable Kanji characters into Word?

It's not earth-shattering, but it's annoying to lose a capability and have no idea why.

Thanks, Doc, I'll give it a try. I'm not trying to write Kanji, but I do want other people's written Kanji to show on screen and to print.

I'll let you know in a couple of days whether it was successful.
