Friday evening or night my internet started to lag. I noticed by the stream i was watching kept lagging. I didnt pay much attention. It was the first of the month, so maybe internet service was doing something. Or it's jsut random lag that will go away. But it's still there, and only on my computer. I just used my 360 for about an hour and everything was normal. I restarted my computer several times today. Just went to speedtest.net, did 3 or 4 tests, and got horrible readings. I got 0.4 - 0.6 d/l speed, and upload speed is half of that.

I'm using firefox. JUst checked exporer and same lag there. Trying to get on speedtest.net in explorer.

and btw, for about 1-2 weeks, my computer has been going slower. i may have to just reformat. I did try this IDE reinstall method. It worked awhile ago but not this time

after doing some more tests, i get speeds up to 1mb or .1mb, and the upload sometimes faster. random readings due to the laggy internet

    What's going on here?

Hello this is a problem that could be caused by any number of things.

(Disclaimer: I only offer a possible solution to the problem and am not responsible for any damage that may arise from this guide).

    1. On next startup of machine press F8 and run your machine in safe mode with networking. This will let you do a speedtest check from the site while there will be minimal programs running on your system. (Don't use the system like this for browsing the web etc. its not got AV or Spyware protection running. just check your speed).
You will probably notice a difference, if you could switch off some off the non-essential startup programs.
    2. Your Anti-Virus and Spyware protection may also need to be configured different as
    3. You may have a virus or spyware on your machine.
    4. Your ISP may have a usage policy, which means you will see a reduction of speed at certain peak times or depending on your usage.
4.1. What is the actual speed the ISP is ment to provide?
4.2. How many devices are using the network at the same time? Other laptops and devices will all need a piece of bandwidth. (example 10mb connection for a standard house, 5 devices will average 2mb sometimes more sometimes less depends on setup and usage).
    5. You dont say if it's wired or wirless sometimes switching the router to another channel can help.
    6. Clearing the cache for DNS, clear the cache for your browsers, history temp files etc.

    Hope this helps.

well its still lagging. looks like i gotta bust my ass to fix this bitch :(

btw, im not entirely sure but the lag happens most during evening/night. i didnt notice much in the morning/afternoon though i'll pay more attention to that

1 - i configured my firewall awhile ago. maybe with the new update i might have to agin
3 - i will update and run anti malware bytes and run it when i sleep, but i did this last week and got nothing other than some windows security thing that i deactivated
4 - no usage policy on my isp. never had this lag problem before, or at least for this long
    4.1 - my speed is 4MB down, 400kb down
4.2 - only one computer and sometimes a game console
5 - im on a router or modem, depending on if i need my router
    wired connection
6 - i cleared my browsing/downlaod histry, form/search history, and cache. dont wanna delete cookies, active logins and site preferences

Are you using Internet Explorer as your access? I've seen a lot of hang-ups over the last few weeks with IE, some of which require CTRL_ALT_DELETE and using Task Manager's shut-down feature. I send messages to Microsoft each time, but have had no usable advice in return.

I'm seriously considering switching to another browser.

i think i found the problem and it was so simple, i thought i already did it. after i reconnected all my modem/router wires, the lag stopped. speed's back to normal. i waited a few days to make sure it's not a fluke. i could've sworn i unplugged everything before. oh well, thx for the help :D
