Hi there, I hate to be a bother but I need help. I recentely started using Windows 7 Home Premium and Inernet Explorer 9 and this problem comes up. I cannot even type on this web site because when I hit the space bar this message appears. So I must coppy and paste this post.

could not perform this operation because the default mail client is not properly installed

How do I stop this from appearing? I do not want a defaault mail client, I just want to use the hotmail website for e-mail as I have been doing for years. I have deleated Windows Live Mail, Windows Live Essentials, Outlook and Outlook Express. I just would like to keep things very simple on my computer. There must be a way to perminately disable this message, it seams that it is generated by WIE. I use Internet Explorer 9 and Windows 7 Home premium. Help please. George

I don't know how you deleted OE as it is not part of Win 7 and can't even be installed on it.
I am wondering if you have an add-on in IE that is causing this problem? Disable them all and if it works, add them back one at a time till you find the culprit. Tools/Manage add-ons

Hi Mr Bill, I am so so sorry for not responding to you earlier but I have not been able to type in word pad, or on a website, or anyware. I am formating this message with great difficulty, using copy and paste as much as possable.
The reason I had OE was because of this response I received earlier:
(If you are using a windows operating system, it means you have not configured Outlook or Outlook express with your email information. If you do not use Outlook or Outlook express for your email, then you will need to set this up. If you do not know how to do this, you can search for ehow on how to configure your email for this. If you don't want to do this, you can also just copy the email address you want to send email to, and then past it in the to field of the email service you regularly use (like hotmail, yahoo, gmail, etc). Obviously as you know Bill that did not work.
I tryed your suggestion to disable the add-on in IE but that made no diferance.
So reluctanty I decided to go with windows live mail to try and get this computer working properly. I downloaded windows live essentials 2011 for wimdows 7 from the microsoft web site and I set up my hotmail as the defaault mail client.
Now I have this problem: Windows live mail opens continuesly whenever I try and type in word pad, or on a website, or anyware, and live mail opens often, for no reason at all, even with no new e -mail. Great, a new problem but simillar. Fun an games, lol.
So that is the situation now Bill. Any suggestion?

    Hi Mr. Bill

Well It looks like I have things finally working on this computer, lol.
The reason Windows live mail opened continuously whenever I try and type in word pad, or on a web site, or anyway, and live mail opens often, for no reason was because I never signed into windows live as I never wanted it in the first place. I did sign into windows live mail and set it up so it has as few automatic features enabled as possible. I guess I felt that would be suffice. I finally signed into windows live this morning and then everything started to work as it should. A little embarrassing to say the least.
I downloaded a free word processor program called Jarte and that is what I am using now to write this message. I did a bit of research and it seams that many people are happy with it. I thank you for telling me about ieSpell, I will download that as well as it would be convenient for typing on web pages.
I still think about the first problem I had which is still unsolved, (could not perform this operation because the default mail client is not properly installed), My youngest son says that he will straighten it out when he returned to Thailand in a few months. I realize that it is one thing to solve a computer problem remotely with no access to the computer and quite another when sitting in front of it.
Anyway Mr. Bill I would like to thank you for your time and assistance. I greatly appreciated it.
    Regards. George
