Which Anti-Virus software do you use? Using a free option, or a paid version?

If your choice isn't listed, feel free to post your choice.

I use MSE even though my provider has Norton (or did have) for FREE. Norton would be one of my last choices if there were not so many other good ones out there.

Normally AVG, but right now I'm using MSE. I was beginning to question if AVG was blocking my MSN at times, as I was having a lot of both incoming and outgoing messages going astray, plus the latest version seemed to be forever riffling through my hard drive! Some searching showed up quite a lot of results where AVG seemed to be the common factor regarding MSN issues.

MSE appears to be very light on resources... just not sure if that will make it light on protection!

Been using MSE on all my PC's since right after it first came out. Got 2 PC's that the grandkids (ages 8 to 19) get on and Lord only knows where they go. Haven't had the first problem with them either. I don't check their pages as it is mostly games and FB that they get on. No problem with them at all. Of course, I am the head keep them up to date person. lol

Right now using AVG Internet Security 2012. Only because I got it free. Probably will not renew it. Thinking of going back to MSE or Eset.

I've been using MSE since it was released on my PC and I also install it on all my clients computers. When I tell my clients that you can get security sofware for free they are amazed. They're the ones using Norton and Mcafee and they get duped into buying security programs because they believe that is their only alternative for protection. I normally remove the Norton and Mcafee products which more often then not are expired leaving their system with no protection whatsoever, then I install MSE.

I've never had any problems with using MSE. Its a great program from Microsoft. I'd recommend MSE to those users who want a simple yet effective free antivirus program without having to worry about paying for a security suite.

I have used MSE since it was introduced some years ago, before this time MS Defender. Microsoft downloads for free, same as several daily upgrades. I certainly trust this software and it performs on my computer without interferring with other software installed. Thank you Miscrosoft.

I use MSE at home & have for a couple of years. No problems.

I had it at work, though, and it didn't do so well. Perhaps too many users...switched to Webroot. We'd used it before & it did well, so we went back to it.

Comodo has also free version of AV program so I suppose it should be included among free AVs.

Myself I use MSE 4.0.1526.0 its light on resources keeps and open eye on the network aswell as things trying to sneak in it has caught a few drive by attempts ( from well known sites not ****)

and if I get the chance I replace existing free AV's with it on any computer I work on and also will suggest people change to it when their current paid service is due for renewal

    which anti-virus

Avast, paid for through the nose but excellent. Also Malwarebytes - maybe you don't count this as a true anti-virus but it's so good at filling in the holes it's worth adding to your list.

I use NORMAN antivirus from Norman Data Defense Systems, because it came as an OEM program with my first XP computer back in 1992. So far as I am aware it has always picked up various trojans, viruses etc. via its 'on access' facility and even tho' it's not free I feel it does a very good job. Also, I can get a fast email response to any problems from the company.

I don't think it matters much which AV or Security Suite one uses these days. They're all good. It's really more a matter of convenience and affordability. Some want everything free; fine. Some don't mind paying for the support that comes with their AV (I fall into that category). Furthermore, the real AV is your own common sense. Nothing will protect a careless, risk-taking person.
