    Hi,

I have been using Netscape Mail 7.2 successfully for many years (with WIN XP) and it recently crashed for the first time, files got corrupted and I had to re-create my IMAP and POP accounts. (P.S. I have a suspicion that it was Firefox browser that I had recently downloaded that caused the interference).

I managed to get everything set up as before EXCEPT for several issues:
    1. My sent folder no longer works, i.e. no matter how many times I click on preferences/mail settings to save my emails in sent folder, it unchecks itself. This happens with both IMAP and POP accts.
    2. I cannot move messages to trash- no sent folder or trash folder is recognized.
    3. My filter settings/files are AWOL on the PC- a very old filter was found during a search but it is nowhere near what my filters have grown into over the years.

I tried to manipulate the files, new accounts got set up during the crash, and after a week of playing around, I managed to accidentally uninstall 7.2 and really ***** myself. Could not find a 7.2 anywhere on the web that had mail included. Finally found an old 7.0 version on a backup somewhere and installed it. So I am now back to square 1 as listed above. I looked at suggestions for modifying js files but have no idea how to do that.

My dream is to find an email client that I can import my Nestcape folders/accts to, but nothing I have downloaded lists Nestcape as an option for importing. Tried Thunderbird, Seamonkey, WML, Outlook express (old).

Please advise either how to fix the original problem, or what (resident) email program I can use that will import my 3 email accts and their baggage from Netscape (now 7.0).

    THANK YOU FOR ALL REPLIES

According to the information on this Mozillazine page, you can import Options, settings, address book, etc., from Netscape into a 3.x version of Thunderbird, then install the new version and it will keep the data imported.

If you want to try this option, you can download Thunderbird 3.x from this OldVersion page (scroll down to see the list of versions available).

Thank you, I will look into it.

Is Thunderbird generally a robust email? I am wondering if it is the same as Netscape, and if so, then perhaps I could just fix the problems I currently have (not being able to save and not having the filter log)

I haven't used Thunderbird but it looks a lot like, and I'm told works a lot like, Outlook Express.

I have used TB for years. Love it, has a few quirks but you quickly get used to them. Use on both POP and IMAP.

Ditto.. I've used TB since version 2 and now I wouldn't use anything else.

As for importing your existing Netscape mail, its a long time since I've used Netscape mail but you may be able to export your email into a format that TB will recognize.

Perhaps this import/export extension or perhaps this one will help you
