    Happy Holidays :D

I don't know if this thread belongs in the XP folder or someplace else... sorry if I put it in the wrong place.

I was playing a game demo when the game froze and I got a box that opened saying the following:

R6025 Pure virtual function call..... Bond.exe

The Bond.exe is the program that is executed when you run the game.

Since receiving this error the game hasn't run properly. It will freeze requiring a POR or run in a stop and go fashion. Also, some other programs have started to have intermitent problems similar to the above.

I've checked for the latest drivers for the video card and BIOS and am up to date, ran defrag, cleaned out all the accumulated garbage in temp folders and recycle.

I've done a search of the microsoft knowledge base but found nothing regarding this error (of course that doesn't mean it isn't there I just couldn't find it:) )

In my google searches on the error message I found a number of "possible" fixes but did not find anything that appeared like the solution was other than a hope and a prayer.

Can someone help me understand what happened and if something has been corrupted how to find out what and fix it.

    Thanks Y'all;)

Have you tried simply uninstalling the game? Using a restore point? Just grasping at straws.

Hi Daizy... happy holiday to you...

I uninstalled the game and reinstalled it. I finally found some help on the game site and apparently this error is caused when multiple programs are running and to "fix" the problem, according to the game site, is to close all running programs and run the game by itself.

I have to say my RAM 512 MB on 2 DDR memory sticks and the video card is 128 mb of DDR also and it seems odd to my prehistoric bones that one game would have a problem when other programs are running. On the other hand, could this be a resource problem. I've always had to think real hard to even get a glimmer of the difference between resource and memory (got an good anology for this?).

I also have to say that I did as recommended and closed all running programs, except my firewall and antivirus, and the program ran correctly and without problem. Guess the techie who wrote the suggestion that I close running programs apparently wasn't just another pretty face

So I guess I will chock this up to experience and try to get it into my head that some programs need more memory or resource, not sure which, and if having a problem I should reduce the number of balls this 'puter is juggling.

Hop'n this note finds you in good health and spirit ;)

    Hiya Jim
Happy holidays to you as well. Yes, sounds to me like you were given excellent advice. You might want to go through msconfig and disable all unneccessary apps from loading at start up. Your computer will thank you for freeing up the resources anyhow.
Use pacs portal to compare what you have checked, to what you can uncheck. (Start button....run....type in msconfig.....click ok....then look under the start up tab)
    Differences between resources and ram
Post back if you need help figuring out what those msconfig entries are.

    *edit*
Fabulous step by step with pics for msconfig

Hey, Pacs Portal is awsome  I've always wanted to know of a site that will take the mystery out of what program is what.

As far as msconfig is concerned I find it cumbersome and have been using a program created by Mike Lin called Startup Control Program... find it here. Once installed it lets you see alot more of the programs than msconfig does because in XP there are like 4 or 5 places that programs can be started. It is accessed via the control panel, easy to use. Let me know if you like it.

I've updated my Startup Control Program to stop running stuff that I didn't really use.

As always Miss Daizy it's nice knowing your watching over us "Over The Hill" guys trying to stay afloat in the technical river (sometimes with paddle.... sometimes without).

    Hi again Jim
Good choice on the control panel app. I've recommended that one many times. :) Now dig in and start unchecking!
