I have a copy of a friend's pst file. He lost a computer and the new one does not have Outlook but for some reason he still had a copy of the pst. I'd like to import it into my outlook, at least the contacts in such a way that it does not disturb my files. A separate contact list is one idea but I'm not seeing how to do that. I would then export the emails into a csv file and then import it into my friend's new windows mail program. I also tried installing mailstore on his computer, but as usual, the instructions from a blogger were incomplete. For example, there was no where that I could see to OPEN the pst file from within Mailstore. Thank you for your help.

You should be able to use the File Menu > Import & Export > Import from file and select the outlook.pst > then select the contacts > then select the destination.

If it tries to add the contacts to your existing contacts, export your contacts as a windows csv file. Then delete yours, import his, export his, delete his, import yours.

You can also use the Mail applet in Control Panel. Outlook must be completely closed, including if in the system tray or notification area. Rename his pst to some-unique-name.pst. Then add it to Outlook via the Mail applet (Data Files tab). Export his contacts. Then close outlook completely and use the Mail applet to remove his pst.

Take a look at the MAIL icon in the control panel... You under show profiles you should see a Remove button.
