windows 7 on this new sony vaio laptop is having continual start up problems.

this problem may be related to the update problem and the slowness problem about which I posted threads in this section.

almost every time I start up windows 7 on this new sony vaio laptop, it is having start up problems and takes a long time to repair then it restarts and sometimes can start up but sometimes just repeats the start up repair process

Hi dispatch trophy. I also agree with the above posts. If you are having that many problems and you just bought the laptop I would get a refund and buy a different laptop such as a Dell, HP, Toshiba, or Lenovo laptop.

I wouldn't use Sony laptops since they have been known to have a lot of issues based on my own experience with using them.

since I posted this I have used the "Assist" button on the laptop. It made a total wipe and re-install.

So far there are no problems, but the previous problems occurred after installing Avast, Malwarebytes and Firefox. I just re-installed Firefox and so far there are no problems.

I will re-install avast and malwarebytes and see if the problem recurs.

You might want to try MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials) instead of Avast.

I also vote for MSE instead of Avast.

MSE works for me in 3 comps. 2 Desktop and Compaq Presario laptop. Other comps use #2 choice - Avast.
Like Arie and SpywareDr, MSE would be my 1st choice. Cheers Neil.:D

As others have said go ahead and install MSE. Its much lighter on system resources than Avast is and I haven't had any problems with using it.

because of all the recommendations on the thread I have installed MSE.

Now I will install malwarebytes (unless MSE replaces that too)

then I will see if the startup problem recurs.

on the Firefox "compatibility test" it recommends a compatibility with XP, meaning the Win 7 may not work well with FF 12.0

Firefox 12.0 is the latest version ... for both XP and Windows 7.

I'm still running Win7 HP SP1 (got ahead of myself in listing the changes to my system specs), and I have absolutely no problems with either FF 12.0 or FF 14.0a2 (Aurora).

Yes I agree, MSE has been on my computer for the past four yeara and MSE has been proved most satisfactory and reliable. A few months back, I installed Malwarebyte and this did cause problems with MSE. At the moment both software titles have worked together not showing any problems.
