have a client that bit and let these bad people in his machine and the damage they have done is unreal. not only to normal windows but they even corrupted the recovery partition so even tho it looks like its rebuilding when it reboot its in a loop and keeps rebooting and does nothing.

has anyone figured out how to reverse what they have done. system restore they have also destroyed. i had to reformat using a win7 dvd and do it the hard way.

The cost to attempt to reverse the damage would probably far and away exceed the cost of a new Windows CD.

I had a computer in for repair that was corrupted in a similar way. The recovery partition was gone, windows administrator account was gone and the computer wouldn't boot up properly.

The solution is to use a linux live boot to recover the user's data files to an external drive and then wipe the drive clean and start again.

i had no problems getting the data even tho it want to boot in safe mode data was available. i was surprised tho at how they made changes to the recovery partition and literally made that function useless. these jerks are really getting good at destroying machines.

Sorry I mis-read the Thread. I think the answer is you can't undo the mess? Neil.

Thing is that even though you could reverse most of what they do, you don't know that there isn't something left dormant waiting to reactivate itself when it sees the problem fixed.

Reformatting and re-installing is a very blunt instrument but it does work...

You could also do worse than check the MBR as well just in case something manages to evade a reformat.

done all that. from what i see these jerks want money and credit card info and anything on the hard drive and in this one case with my client they had at least 15 minutes to get that. client has called all financials etc so he is okay rebuilt machine and all is okay now even mbr okay. these people are really jerks with bugs at least one can remove them and in most cases reversse the damage but not with this one.

thanks going to close the call.
