How can i turn on/off the notification area?

The small "up arrow" that is normally in the system tray has gone
missing. Several icons show in the system tray (right-side) but
    several icons are missing....

Lots of stuff about missing icons on the net but nothing i can find about
    a missing notification area window.

    thanks,

Hi clif. See if this restores the notification area.

Right click on the Taskbar and click Properties. Then under Notification Area click on the Customize button. Uncheck the checkbox that says Always show all icons and notifications in the Taskbar. Also if you want to hide certain icons simply choose the icon you want hidden and choose the option that says hide icon and notifications. When done click Ok to close the window. Then click on Ok again to close the Taskbar and Start Menu properties window.

    See if that helps.

Evan, the checkbox that says Always show all icons and notifications in the Taskbar was not checked.

    Thanks for the reply,
    clif

Try checking the box and click on ok. Then go back into the notification area options and uncheck it. See if that restores the notification area functionality.
