I'm logged on to my OS as the administrator and I'm trying to delete a folder in my C drive but Windows won't allow the delete because I don't have permission to delete this file. I've checked the permissions in 'Security' and all are permitted. I've never really understood permissions and was wondering what I'm doing wrong and why I can't delete the folder.

Hi , if not a Windows system file you can delete by using a tool called assassin found in the freeware version of malwarebytes anti-malware program

Tip: Some files and folders are next to impossible to delete because they are part of the operating system. If you delete them, the operating system won't work right ... if at all.

It's an entire folder I'm trying to delete. File Assassin will do only one file at a time. The folder in question is not part of the OS.

Hi buzzmag. I assume you have already taken ownership of the folder and all of its contents?

If you have done that then try deleting the files in the folder first and when thats done see if you can delete the folder.

If that doesn't work then boot the computer into Safe Mode and try deleting the folder from there.

Did you try it in Safe mode?

Just tried here on a system running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (with all updates) and I was able to delete everything in the
    C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp
folder, with the exception of Microsoft's "FXSAPIDebugLogFile.txt" 0-byte file.

    Try in Safe Mode.

This folder is part of RT Se7en Lite.

If you have RT Se7en Lite installed, that would make sense, it could be in use by the program. If you uninstalled it, check with their support what they suggest.

Were you logged in as an Administrator?

Did you try removing "RT Se7en Lite "? (Click the Start orb, type in "appwiz.cpl" {without the quotes} and press [Enter]).

If that doesn't work, you might try removing it with Revo Uninstaller.

If still no luck, boot from a Knoppix Live CD and delete the folder.

FileAssasin and similar free apps can unlock the folder or file so it can be deleted.

OK, success. I was able to delete the folder using "rmdir" with the Recovery Console Command Prompt.

Thanks to all for the help.
