I am runnng Windows XP, on a acer aspire 1690 when I start up I get the error message, "lsass.exe. system error ". in the box it says when trying to update this return status indicates that the value provided as the current password is not correct.

It then closes down and starts up again and I get the message and it will not start up!! it keeps going round and round. It does the same in safe mode. I have tried to press f8 and install windows from the discs but this does not work. My XP is on a partition. I have no floppy drive on my pc. What do I do??

My acer has a intel processor1.50 ghz my bios version is old but i have noway of updating it without windows starting also i try to do a full recovery with the recovery cds that came with the pc but freezes on the first cd everytime i even installed a new hard drive but the same thing happens it always freezes after placing the first cd of 3

Hi Joecap, a pity you haven't taken the time to fill out your "System Details" in User CP.

[My acer has a intel processor1.50 ghz my bios version is old but i have noway of updating it without windows starting also i try to do a full recovery with the recovery cds that came with the pc but freezes on the first cd everytime i even installed a new hard drive but the same thing happens it always freezes after placing the first cd of 3]

If you installed a new hard drive, was it set up with Windows XP OS?
I don't think it's possible to install the OS from Recovery discs.
If your comp is "freezing" when you put 1 CD in -it sounds more like some hardware problem.

Can you borrow a Genuine XP CD to try the MS fix that SpywareDr. suggested? Neil.

This microsoft CD has it's own recovery console, not needed to install it to use. However, it doesn't do any "recovering" or "autofixing" on it's own. It waits for you to tell it what to do. SpywareDr has provided you with an excellent link to attempt a repair.
If you get this error message while attempting to use the CD, this is because you are booting instead from the hard drive.
But, if you have in good faith followed all those instructions on the webpage and still get the error message; you have, I believe, a failed hard drive. It isn't that the instructions weren't executed, it is as though nothing was retained by the drive.

My opinion is your registry corruption is the result of the failure of the hard drive.

This CD has the tools to diagnose your hard drive.

As SpywareDr said - Hardware - I would test RAM first. You have a new Hard Drive, so if the RAM tests OK the only units left are CPU, Motherboard and PSU. Make sure all the cable connectors are clean and in good condition. Neil.
