Curious problem with my Microsoft Mouse. I have to click it numerous time before it will react. (left click) Right click pops up right away with new window. Is this hardware or software problem?

Usualy a wore out mouse problem. I have to replace mine every year or so. I play Free slots and do a lot of left clicking. You could always go to the mouse in the control panel and make it a left hand mouse. Changes the left and right clicks. Would take some getting use to. Mice are pretty cheap now a days. I buy the optical ones. Just plug it in and have fun. No software to load.

Hi joe645. Adding to what Bill said, it sounds like the left button on the mouse is starting to wear out from continuous use. It looks like you will have to get the mouse replaced.

Sometimes the simplest applications present the biggest problems. My original Microsoft Optical Mouse was connected thru a KVM switch (2 CPU's). I bought a HP Optical Mouse (USB connection). You would think just exchanging the mouse would work. NO. I can use the new mouse if I directly connect it to one of my front USB ports. It will not work connected to the KVM switch, yet the old one will (except for its original problem) Doesn't make sense or I am not seeing something.

Thats strange. Did you try connecting the HP optical mouse to a different USB port on the KVM switch?

Turn off both computers, disconnect the KVM switch entirely and then connect it again with the HP mouse hooked up and see if that helps.

The IOGEAR KVM switch is an older model and has the typical purple and green connections not USB ports. I am starting to suspect the green connector although I tried to hook the new mouse to the back of the CPU directly into the
green connection and it didn't work but hooked to a USB port and it works. Same with the old mouse now also. I may have to look into a new KVM switch or something else.

Since I am going to upgrade my CPU and install new KVM switch this thread could be closed. The issue is solved. Thanks.

    Thread Tools

I already was aware of the tool but when I attempted to do that very thing all the pull down menu gives me is "view printable version ". But to answer your reply, none of the suggestions really solved the problem but I went ahead and ordered a new KVM switch for future use since mine was a little outdated with its connections and since I was going to upgrade the motherboard which has a different mouse/keyboard input, I believe my problem will be solved in the upgrade. I temp solved the problem by using 2 mice directly connected. Thanks for all the suggestions though.
