I have checked out your web site for answers to some problems that I am having with XP. Can you help me or direct me to a site that could.
One problem is listed on your FAQ's below:

Q: I have told Windows XP to remember my dial-up password, but everytime I want to dial, I notice that XP seems to add more characters to my password, so I have to retype it. How can I fix this?
A: Windows XP doesn't add any characters. It does however adds ***** to make up a fixed number of them (15). This is to make it harder for anybody looking over your shoulder to discover how many characters your password is (which is the first step to start guessing your password).

Unfortunately in my case it does seem to alter the password as if I try to log on with these new characters the ISP responds with unrecognised password and I have to retype it.

Also I find windows messenger a great annoyance. Every time I log on to the internet it tells me that I have to verify my e-mail address by reading an e-mail at btinternet.com and clicking a hyperlink. I did this however and the messages keep appearing. Help please.

    Rohan,

Windows XP does change the appearance of your password but should not be changing the password itself.

Maybe you should double check that it is being entered correctly the first time

Also check the way in which the password is send. Right-click on the connection, select Properties, and select the Security tab.

If your ISP needs unencrypted passwords, check the Advanced (custom settings) radio button, and click Settings.

In the Data encryption: drop-down box select Optional encryption (connect even if no encryption), check the Unencrypted password (PAP) protocol.

    That should work.

Many thanks to both of you, I will try this.

I have a new problem now though, when i try to log on to BT the modem dials and says I am connected to BTOW but then the pc tries to log on to aol even though this is not selected as my default dial up connection.

I am attempting to work through similar problems, and I beginning to believe the computer is incorrectly recognizing another user with different preferences and settings.
