It is always a good idea to eliminate the stupid stuff first. When it reboots during the installation, if you reboot from the CD, it starts the whole process over again- the endless semi-install. Let it reboot from the hard drive. Remove the CD if you have to, but it will ask for the CD again later in the process.
You probably are not that stupid. I'm not sure anybody is. But I had to think about it for awhile on my first install.
I am going offline now. But that is all I know anyway. Someone else will have to take it from here.

I'm back. For a little while. Let us know if that fixed the problem. Apparently no one else is going to reply until we hear from you. I wrote that last message after many hours online. I did not intend to imply that you were stupid. I had in mind all these computer geniuses on the boards who would take you through three days of advanced troubleshooting without ever thinking about something simple like that. It is an easy mistake to make, since the installation gives no hint that you are supposed to reboot from the hard drive. If that did not fix the problem, there are a lot of other simple things to look at. Are you doing a clean install? Did you select the option to format the whole partition? etc. Post an update, and someone more knowledgable than me will respond.
