I've been experiencing a fluky type of thing the last 2 days. I've use windows over the years, but have never seen this, and since I recently upgraded to XP pro thought it may be an inherrent problem.

A few of my programs and utilities resort to a smaller then full screen even though they are maximized. They are shorter tehn full hieght and about half a screen in width.

In the unmaximized view they can only be "streached" so far (About the size of the abnormal maximized view).

Also, the view can not be dragged to the far right oof the screen.

The only thing new in recent days was a download of "Universal Explorer" which is one of the utilities exhibeting the problem.

"Universal Explorer" has probably mucked up your registry. Explorer saves window size and position information in the registry.

This happened to me once when I tried a free ISP that covered the top third of the screen with ads. After uninstalling, only the bottom 2/3 of the screen was accessible.

I'd suggest trying a repair installation. This may solve the problem, but the repair's strong point (that it tries to maintain all settings of the installation) is also its weak point (the settings you want returned to default may be maintained).

I would uninstall the universal junk 1st with add/remove.

Then search the hd for reminents and delete. Then use RegCleaner also. Then you will have a better chance that the repair install suggested by Abraxas will work.

Good description of how it works Abraxas.

    RegCleaner Got it

    Thanks mflynn. Regcleaner got it.

I should have thought of it. The system I upgraded from recently had RegCleaner on it, but an older version and never thought to check if it had been updated to work with XP.

The price was right and a lot of time was saved.

    Again, thanks.
