    Hi all,

    All my SeaMonkey bookmarks completely disappeared! And yet, my passwords, etc., are still there. I did a search and the only .json file is one KB dated today.

    The only thing I did was update FlashPlayer and when I opened SeaMonkey, everything was kosher. After the "update ", everything was gone.

    How do I get them back? I know that if they have been deleted, they're still there, but how do I find\restore them? Is there a program for recovering them? Or is there something else I need to do? This is important.

    As many problems as you have had with SeaMonkey, I would be looking for something else.

    @TonyT,

    There were no bookmarks to restore: All the .json files were gone! I read the article before I came here hoping that someone could tell me where they went and how to get them back.

    @MrBill,

    Yes, I have had problems, but they were of the "moving my profile" type.

    I am using Seamonkey2.7.2, and I took a look at my profile, in the Mozilla folder, of Documents and Settings|App Data, and noticed that I have two bookmarks.html, one bookmarksbackup.html file, in addition to a bookmarksbackup folder with daily backup of the last seven days. Two .html files are quite old, god knows from which Seamonkey version, but one is up to date. The files in the bookmarksbackup folder are of the .json persuasion. I don't have any bookmarks.json file outside the backup folder.
    Have you looked in the Seamonkey profile folder? Do you know where it is located? Have you tried to work within Seamonkey? Like go to Bookmarks|Manage Bookmarks?
    Have you checked Help|Help contents?
    I have a feeling you have been barking up the wrong tree. But, you may have some problem with your profile, but you will not know until you look into it.
    By the way, in case you don't know, the App.Data folder has hidden files, so they should not come up during a search.

    Hi Westside,

    I looked everywhere for the .json files and no joy.

    I found my HandyRecovery program and ran it. My .json files were found (they were all deleted by the by and I still don't know how:confused:) and I restored them.

    So, my bookmarks are back and I tested it with adding a bookmark, closed SM, restarted and it was there. I'll have to remember to occasionally backup my Mozilla folder to my E:\ drive.

    Now, only one little thing left: I have SM set to display the website icons and on my Personal Toolbar only about half of them are displaying the icon; whereas before the SNAFU all the bookmarks on the toolbar showed the icon, too.

    Ideas?

    You are doing things in a different way that I do. I am not sure what you have. I assume a PC, which I have. In Windows Explorer, I look in this path: C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\SeaMonkey\Profiles\xxxxxx.default. And, there is my profile. If you placed your profile elsewhere, and not in the default location, it is up to you to find it. But, don't confuse backups with the standard files.
    The path I listed is that of my WinXP. But, look at http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_SeaMonkey.

    Hi Westside,

    Thank you for the links. I always try to find the answer to any problems I have by searching: If I've got a problem, countless others have, too. I only come here asking for help when I can't find anything that makes sense.

    Anyway, I moved my Profile to my D:\ partition and everything was peachy until I updated Flash Player — that's when all my .json files disappeared. I "recovered" them and while they're all there and working, the "Show Website Icons" is only displaying about half of them.

    New thread?

    Unfortunately, I have kept my profile in the default position, so I would not be able to test your problem. I cannot see how the update of Flash Player would be connected with a mess up of the bookmarks folder. May be someone else has the profile in a non-default location.
    I happen to have two profiles for Seamonkey. I had used the second one, only once. I will take a look at it, and, perhaps place it somewhere else.

    I will tell you what I did with my alternate profile, which I could find on my hard drive.
    Typically, if one wants to use a specific profile, it is necessary to do what I call the "profile switch ", i.e. making a simple addition to the shortcut path: "C:\Program Files\SeaMonkey\seamonkey.exe" -p, i.e. the -p, with a keyboard space in front. Clicking on the modified path will bring up the profile manager, and I should see two items, but only one was there, i.e. the default. Somehow if I added SM2.6(the description of that profile), nothing happened. So, I had to go to manage profiles in the profile manager, and tell it which location the profile had, and I had to name it SM2.6, as it was on my hard drive. Only then, I was able to use that profile. I could have moved the SM2.6 to another location, and, then, tell the manager where the profile was. Of course, this is probably, not related to JpChris' problems, but one can see that Seamonkey may have "mental lapses ". In any event, I could select either profile to start my Seamonkey.
    Of course, s simple test is to use this path, Start|All Programs|Seamonkey|Seymonkey Profile Manager, accomplishing the same as the -p shift.

    This is weird: When I went to Program Files and hovered over SeaMonkey, the sub-menu opened and I clicked on Profile Manager — and it opened Google! The only way I could access the Profile Manager was by clicking Tools — Switch Profile.

    It never used to be this way. I could always click on Profile Manager and the window would open to add, change, or delete accounts. Now I get Google. When I right-clicked on Profile Manager, properties, it has the shortcut to SeaMonkey Profile Manager:
    "D:\SeaMonkey2\seamonkey.exe -profileManager" but it takes me to Google.

    What's going on?

    In Windows Explorer, do you have a file named "seamonkey.exe" in a folder named "SeaMonkey2" on your drive "D: "?

    (IOW, does "d:\seamonkey2\seamonkey.exe" actually exist on your computer?)
