I just had to reinstall XP and now my sound won't work. How do I find which drivers to install? I don't have any of the disks. Or can I just download another program? Please help.

First, you need to go to Device Manager and see if there are any yellow Question marks against any unrecognized hardware.

Use Windows key + Break > select Hardware > Device Manager.

After that there are a number of Driver Finding tools that will analyze your system and find the correct drivers for you. Personally, I've used DriverAgent and found it pretty ok. Perhaps others can recommend other tools but unless you know what sound chipset you have, you're going to have to resort to one of the many driver tools on the market.

As the post above states, do that. Then on the yellow ones, right click on one of them and then left click Update and then in the next window, check the box that wants to access the internet. Let it try to find it. Sometimes MS has a generic one for it and you can go to their updates and choose custom and see if it finds one for it. Best thing to do is find what sound card you have and go to the Manufactures web site and download it from them.

What did you do to make it work? May help others with the same or similar problems.

I went to the device manager and right clicked the alert and selected update now.
