    Hi. Running Office Standard 2007, I have the following problem: The send/receive sequence sometimes hangs on "Receiving message [n] of [n], [x] Kb" and I need to close Outlook. The icon remains in the system tray, but greyed out and with an X superimposed. On shutting down Windows, I get a window with an errormsg about "ThorConnWndClass" needing to be terminated, and with the usual countdown to automatically terminating it.

    On this board I found one relevant thread. Whiskeyman referred an enquirer to two offsite threads. One gave a 404 error, but the other suggested reloading the original CD and removing the element "Alternative User Input ". I loaded the original Office CD, went for "add/remove features ", but nowhere could I find the "Alternative User Input" feature to remove it.

    I had previously googled the problem and found many threads, but none seemed to have a workable solution, although there were dire warnings about the way this error could permanently corrupt the .pst file. Some suggested that "ThorConnWndClass" was part of a Norton program, but I have never, ever had anything from Norton installed.

    Bonus question (which may or may not be relevant to this problem): I've noticed that, although I have send/receive set to "every 15 minutes ", Outlook in fact runs a send/receive sequence every 1:30 to 2:00 minutes approx - don't know whether this is relevant or is a totally separate issue.

    Grateful for any guidance on this.

    Thanks Arie - I did that and scanpst.exe found and repaired an error in the pst file. But - unless I'm mistaken - that doesn't address the cause of the problem, the ThorConnWndClass error, so the pst file may get damaged again.

    BTW I forgot to say in my original post that I had also run the Outlook Diagnostics, but without ant effect.

    Hi Steve and thanks for that. Your link didn't work for me, but I found the file anyway by googling "Personal Folders Backup site:microsoft.com" and installed it. However, even after a cold reboot, the option "Backup" still does not appear in the File menu drop-down list in Outlook.

    And anyway, like Arie's suggestion, if I have understood this right, once I get this to work it will save the situation if the .pst file gets damaged, but does not address the original issue described in my first post.

    Well, that's what you say. A corrupted PST file is one of the reasons that error occurs in the first place, so fixing your PST may fix the error.

    Aha - that certainly changes things! Sorry, Arie: my (false) assumption from the various threads I had found on other boards was that a corrupted .pst file was the *result* of the ThorConnWndClass problem, and not the *cause*! Guess I was looking at this the wrong way round - thanks for clearing that up.

    Anyway, I've now followed both your and Steve's advice - Hopefully the original problem won't recur now.

    This leave just two minor points unresolved:

    1. Although I installed the PF Backup app recommended by Steve, I still don't see "Backup" on the File menu drop-down list;
    2. Outlook is still performing a send/receive cycle every two minutes or so. My contract is a flat rate type, so it's not costing me any more, but it's using resources I'd rather have available for other tasks. Should I make this into a separate thread, as it doesn't seem to have been affected by solving the original issue?

    PS: In case it's relevant, I'm using Outlook Connector to have my Hotmail transferred across into Outlook. Might that be the cause of the rapid send/receive cycling?

    Can't help you with #1, I just backup the PST file myself, so I don't have that 'plug-in'

    As for #2, check Tools > Options > Mail Setup > Send/Receive. You could have multiple groups. Outlook connector doesn't do anything for Send/Receive AFAIK.

    Nope. Just the one group, "All Accounts ", set to 15 minutes. Still, as I said, it's not an extra cost, but it's bugging me that I can't solve it. :confused:
