Every time I uninstall a program, I cannot get back on line. When I do a system restore, I can. But then I have to uninstall the programs that will not work and the same thing happens. Happens even when I do the uninstall in Safe Mode. Any one have a clue as to what would cause this? I have checked with Verizon and my DSL has no problems.

To uninstall programs I usually use Revo uninstaller and Iobit uninstaller which shows more programs than Revo does.

IOBIT is junk in my book. I and others have had problems with this program. I believe somebody on here had problems with it not long ago. When you use REVO, which uninstall do you use? The last one I hope. I have used it hundreds of time and never had a problem with it. What are some of the programs you are using that you have uninstalled?

Assuming that these are programs which you have installed just use the programs uninstaller through Control Panel > Programs & Features. That should be more than sufficient and is the first step that Revo uses. Orphan files and registry entries rarely cause any issues - if they do that is the time to use Revo.

When using Revo remember that you only delete the Registry entries in bold

Thank you, Pete. Yes, they are programs that I have installed. I do sometimes use the Control Panel, but it happens there too, when I reboot, cannot get on line. Now, for the past several hours computer has not been doing that, but it started about two weeks ago. Really weird and has never happened before in any OS I have had. When I do a Restore, I always uninstall the programs that Restore says will not work with the Restore.

Thank you. I do delete the bold ones in Revo.

Mr. Bill, are you a vet? If so, thanks much. My dad was Navy for 40 years and a brother Air Force for 25.

Anyway, I usually use Revo but have found that sometimes it does not have all of my programs so then I will sometimes go to the Control Panel and uninstall from there or use Iobit as it is similar to Revo. Yes, I use the last one in Revo.

Some of the programs I have uninstalled are Avast antivirus, Windows 7 Codecs, Adobe flash player (boy, a hard one to get rid of), AVG free antivirus (I change antiviruses every so often), Wise registry cleaner, Zone Alarm, and numerous other ones.

If I do a Restore, I have to uninstall the programs that will not work with the Restore.

Yes I was in the Navy. Not for that long though. Registry cleaners are not usually recommended. They can make you PC usless and a clean install will be required to make your PC useable again.
When you get a minute, go to User CP near the top left and fill out your system specs. Be sure to save them.

Go Navy! I usually use ccleaner after I have uninstalled a lot of programs and usually everything goes okay. This problem is just a weird happening. The computer did it to me again a few minutes ago after I went to Revo and uninstalled some programs that in System Restore said would not work. I may have to do a Recovery. Did not want to but this makes me very uptight.

System Specs, ok. Thought I had done that but will try again.

I read with interest about Adobe Flash, unfortunately if you uninstall Adobe Flash, the BBCi Player will not function.

I trust this isn't out of line to ask, or violate posting protocol but as a function of uninstalling programs and then cleaning the system, why not use the uninstall function via the Tools Category in CCleaner? I realize this isn't directly addressing the originally stated problem but is (in my mind quasi-related). Sorry if I am out of line.

This is slightly puzzling... It seems that you're trying to uninstall multiple programs in one go. Is this the case?

Some programs require a reboot after Revo uninstalls them. Are you doing this?

Can you let us know what programs you're trying to get rid of? (and in what order)

Have you tried uninstalling them one at a time?

    Just a few thoughts....

Thank you for letting me know. It is installed but not working right, as everywhere I go I get a message that it wants to add Adobe flash.

Thank you. Not out of line at all. I do sometimes use the uninstall in Ccleaner. This laptop has given me problems since I bought it two and a half years ago. It has gone back to HP for repair so many times. And, their reps in India do not help it any. Sorry about that India but it is true! Have spent hours with them on phone various times.

I do a reboot if Revo says to, or, rather it is the program itself that usually says to.

In what order? Not sure what you mean. Anyway, I have uninstalled a lot lately the ones that System Restore says will not work on the Restore. There are a lot - like Zone Alarm,Comodo,Avast and numerous other ones. I have tried one at a time. In fact, I did earlier this evening and I could not get back on line . But I did with a System Restore so that means more programs to uninstall.

I probably will do a Recovery as soon as I can as this is too much on me. It is 3 AM and I spend far too much time tryig to fix this nutty laptop. When I first logged in here I had to change my email address as I got this message:

    Hello foxygrandma35,
YOUR ACCOUNT IS CURRENTLY FLAGGED AS UNCONFIRMED!

This is either because you are a newly registered member, or you have recently changed your e-mail address. In either case, you need to confirm your e-mail address by clicking a special link sent to you in a confirmation e-mail. You will not have full access to the site until this step is completed.

If you suspect your e-mail address was entered incorrectly, update it by visiting your User CP.

Also, please be sure to disable any spam filters you may have - or configure them that you can receive email from @windowsbbs.com - so that this and all future messages can reach you.

Almost forgot to say that I have Fences installed and it had been working fine until earlier this evening. When I double click the desktop icons do not come back, but just shows a black screen.

Later today I will try Microsoft Fixit. I have been there a lot lately .

foxygrandma35, your mention of ZoneAlarm, this particular named software did give me much trouble with my computer's functioning to such an extent that I uninstalled ZoneAlarm and just consentrated with Microsofts' Security Essentials, that has proved for a long time to me as a to be trusted program.

Often, when the program's uninstaller finishes, it asks you to reboot. You should select No and continue with the Revo uninstallation until Revo has completed clearing up after the program's uninstaller - Then reboot.

Its perfectly possible that the order in which you are uninstalling the programs has an effect on the uninstallation. However, you are listing

These programs you have listed are all security programs. You should only have ONE AntiVirus program and ONE Firewall installed at any one time. This may well be where your problems lie.

Each software program should be fully uninstalled and a caption shown to inform this being the case, then if requested reboot the computer. Before attempting a further uninstal of another program. any other way will certainly confuse the computer, as a computer can only obey one command at a time.

Thanks, Bobby. Could not answer earlier as site wold not let me sign in but today it did!

I have used Security Essentials sometimes but it never finds anything, whereas Zone Alarm does at times. Right now I have Panda Cloud. I experiment with different ones when they do not show anything is wrong. Spybot and Super Antispyware will show me frequently adware. They are good at that.

I generally have only one antivirus installed and one firewall.
The ones I listed are those I sometimes try.
