I've been through the Malware & Virus Forum and my computer is CLEAN but this did not resolve my issue.
    1. At PC restart, I get a popup saying, "Desktop Window Manger stopped working and was closed" When this popup materializes, I noticed that the windows bar at the bottom of my screen changes color. It looks washed out.
    2. When I open IE9, my home page appears (google.com) but an error message pops up saying that Internet Explorer has stopped working (close program button). When you click on the button, Windows checks for a solution. You then get the popup saying that it has stopped working. I've tried various websites with the same result.
    3. I installed Firefox so I'd have some method to access the internet but it is doing strange things also. When you open it, all you see is the popup asking if I want to make it my default browser (I have this set to show), but you don't see the background of firefox you only see the desktop. It takes about 5 minutes of using alt tab before you actual see the firefox screen. Sometimes you can see the top and bottom bar (its like it's transparent). At times, I've shut it down and reopened when it has been stubborn. Once it's open, then it works fine.
    4. Get this, once I've got firefox to open, I can then open IE9 without getting the error message. I can close and reopen with no issue. Once I close firefox, I have the same issue with IE9 again.
I believe these errors all began with the Desktop Windows Manager. I suspected Malware or a Virus but we cleaned the system throughly as part of the Malware Forum.

I tried loading IE9 without any add-ons. I followed the reset IE9 instructions. I am out of ideas.

If you google-> Desktop Window Manger stopped working

You'll see you're not alone... Did you make any type of change to the Windows "theme" before you started getting the error?

Try the following to see what happens:

Yes, I did google it and I've been trying out a lot of the suggestions that I've seen.

I've never made a change to the "theme ".

I tried your suggestion but the dwm.exe is not running. I get the error message right at the beginning. Then Desktop Window Manager is closed. I don't get the error again unless I restart my computer.

I think I fixed my internet explorer issue yesterday. There was an update from Microsoft that installed that fixed that issue.

    Figured out my problem

When microsoft recently installed updates on my machine, it looks like it wasn't compatible with the drivers for my video card. Even updating the drivers from the device manager didn't work. I went to Nvidia and downloaded the driver directly....it was just released on Feb 9, 2012. Device manager has quit crashing and everything is working fine.....so far.
