I'm running two computers that this would concern: a newer laptop (WIN7 PRO 64bit) and a slightly older desktp with WIN7 PRO 32 bit). Like many of us, I have a few "old reliable" programs that I've kept on using over the years and this concerns (blow off the dust!) Claris for Windows 4.0, an old reliable friend for making simple dot graphix for instruction sheets.

The problem I'm having is that the laptop allowed me to install and will run the program with no problem. It may BE in the XP mode locker (and so shows) but it acts like it's right on the desktop and will print, send to file, allow "C "opy and "P "aste, etc.

To get this on the desktop WIN7 Pro 32, I had to actively download and install the VM and the XP Mode programs from Microsoft and, while it allows me to install, open and use the Claris programs in XP Mode, I don't seem to be able to get printing (can't see how to configure a printer in XP Mode), it will not allow drag-n-drop, will not allow "C" and "P ", in short, it won't let the information I've created OUT of the VM at all.

I have to use PrintKey (another ancient but totally wonderful WIN95 screen capture proggie) and capture the screen, then print it using it's native print driver (jaggies like 1993!) to get the info out.

I may be running up against a basic difference betweeh the -32 and -64 bit versions of Windows, but I can't seem to find anything in here that addresses the question, so...

If this is addressed somewhere, then please let me know where to look. Not a major problem but it's gonna be a real PITA to learn a new program to replace this function, and I ain't got that long left!

    TIA

XP Mode allows both printing & clipboard sharing.

I will try the solution offered above tonite and advise

Again, this is WIN732PRO, and the post referred to implies that only -ultimate and -enterprise will allow this function. I may be mis-reading that post.

I can C&P inside the XP mode, but I cannot copy in XPM and then paste in a program outside it.

As to printing, the programs just say "printer not found ", even though the printer shows up in the list of devices in the program's print options splash box..

I can Printkey some examples and post them tonite if you think this would help explain the occurrences.

lj50 (From WBF?), thanks for the compliments. Feel good right about now!

Did you install the printers inside XP?

EDIT: Someone types faster then I do.

If you can't do it in XP Mode, then give Oracle VM VirtualBox a try. It can run almost any OS you throw at it.

One of the reasons for the IP is that I cannot figure out how to do that.

    Thx

Have you tried to run this program in (Win95) compatibility mode rather than in the XP Virtual machine?

I feel like Caesar! "I did not know know of such a program until it no longer existed! "

What, pray tell (and at the risk of being excoriated by Arie [again] for stupidity), is a "WIN 95 COMPATIBILITY "? I had no idea that WIN7 was so versatile!

On the start menu, go to your desired program. Right click and select properties. Select the compatibility tab and check the box "Run in compatibility mode for:" Then select whatever version of windows you want to emulate. Its good for programs that won't otherwise install or legacy programs that won't run on 64 bit windows.
You can also install programs (and drivers) in compatibility mode if they won't ordinarily install.

Are talking about a usb printer?
After you install the printer in XP mode, go to the XP menu bar and select USB, then "attach" the printer.
When you want to print from W7, you have to "release" the printer.
