I have been able to play dvd's

but now windows media player tells me:

"Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because a problem occurred with digital copyright protection. "

but when I click on the "troubleshooting" link to fix the problem, I cannot get that page either.

"0xC00D1163: A problem occurred with digital copyright protection "

WMP is a Windows component, so when you go to Add/Remove programs, you go to the left pane and you can add or remove it. I removed it, then reinstalled it.

But same problem "a problem occurred with digital copyright protection."

I am able to play the dvd on Sony "DVD Express," but the interface is rather crude.

I know what it is. Remove it and then reinstall it. Not take it out and then put it back in. WMP has been like that forever.

Control Panel/Add or Remove programs. It will be listed there.
Then Google WMP and download it again. Make sure that you get it from the M$ site. Not some other site.

There is also to the left in the "Windows Components" section, not in the Programs list, an entry for Windows Media Player.

If you uncheck the box next to Windows Media Player, you remove access to the program (0.6 MB).

I am assuming from your answer that this is not really the program, but simply "access" to the program.

Just downloaded and installed Windows Media Player 11.

But I got this message when trying to play an opera dvd:

"Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card. Try installing an updated driver for your video card. "

But I am able to play the dvd with the Sony DVD Express, so the video card is not the problem.
