My computer has been running slow lately and was full of useless junk. So, I thought it was a good time to reload Windows 7 (64 Bit). I was able to connect to my home network before the reload, but afterwards, my computer will find the network, but will only connect only with "Limited Access ". I get the same problem when I connect with ethernet as well. The only way I can connect is by tethering with my EVO 4G--which would be fine, but I get only a weak 3G signal at home.

I have rebooted the modem/router, did the windows troubleshooting, and called my ISP's ridiculous tech support. All to no avail.

During the tech support adventure, I did the release/renew via command prompt and it said something like "isatap.virus detected" during the renew. The tech guy didn't know whether or not that was something to worry about. Is this causing my problem?

I have done a new scan with an updated Avast and it shows to be clear.

Additionally, my laptop is the only device (among 6) with any connectivity issues.

In advance of any help, THANK YOU!

Hi larryh78. Have you installed the latest driver for your network card as well as your wireless network adapter from the manufacturer's website of your labtop?

First, ISATAP isn't a virus. ISATAP is the Intra-site Automatic Tunnel Addressing Protocol. ISATAP is an IPv6 transition technology that allows you to use IPv6 applications on a IPv4 network.

Moving on, I had this same connectivity issue with this PC I'm using now.

Assuming the previous suggestions haven't resolved your connection problem....

    My solution was as follows.

First you need to ascertain your gateway's IP address

Click Start and in the search box type cmd. In the Command Prompt that comes up type ipconfig and hit the enter key. These details are the details for my PC here. Yours will most likely be different.

    Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

    Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
    Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fe80::ec2a:a022:b246:b1cb%20
    IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.10
    Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.254

Make a note of the IPv4 details, the Subnet Mask and the Default Gateway

Then type exit and hit enter to close the command prompt.

Then go to Network and Sharing Center. On the left click on Change Adapter Settings.

Right Click on the LAN connection and select Properties.

Select TCP/IPv4 and click on properties. Most likely, it will be set to Obtain an IP address automatically. You need to set it to Use the following IP address.

Now you set the IP address, Subnet Mask and Default Gateway manually. In particular set the IP address at a value that you are pretty sure isn't likely to be taken by another PC on your network that is using DHCP. You can use any value between 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.255 that isn't already in use - refer back to what you noted earlier... As you can see, in my own case, I have used 192.168.1.10.

For the DNS server settings you can use any valid DNS server. For example the Comodo secure DNS server addresses are 8.26.56.26 and 8.20.247.20.

Click OK > OK and close the Network and Sharing Center. Then Reboot your computer.

You can set your wireless adapter in a similar way except that some routers require that you use an IP address higher than 50 or in some cases 100. You'll need to check your router's documentation for the valid values. The current settings will give you an idea of the valid IP range though.

Hopefully you'll then get internet access.

First and foremost I want to say thank you for the suggestions.

    I officially have internet access!

Don, when I was documenting the IP,Subnet, and Default Gateway, I knew right away something wasn't right because the Default Gateway was blank and my IPv4 started with 169. I didn't know what the whole thing was supposed to be but I knew it has always started with 192.

Then it donged on me...get the numbers from my daughter's PC. I documented her numbers and copied them, with the exception being the IPv4. I just changed the last number to something close. Hopefully I didn't steal another device's address. I guess I will find out when and if another device has connectivity problems.

Again...Thank you MrBill, Evan, and Don for your quick replys and assistance. I am extremely thankful for such a great resource!
