I can click a picture and It will open, and the next picture may not open. When it does not open I recieve the following.

    COM Surrogate has stopped working
Windows can check online for a solution to the problem.
Check online for a solution and close the program
    Close the program

    View problem details
If I click Close the program, then click the picture, the picture usually opens. If I check many pictures till I open the one I search for I Close the program, and then click the picture again and hope it opens. I click 3 times to open the picture.

Try booting Windows in a 'clean' boot & see if this fixes the problem.

    1. Type msconfig in the Start Search box, and then press [ENTER].
    2. On the General tab, click Selective Startup.
    3. Under Selective Startup, click to clear the Load Startup Items check box.
    4. Click the Services tab, click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable All.
    5. Click OK. When you are prompted, click Restart

    Try to replicate the error.

To get back to a 'normal' start up:

    1. Open msconfig (as explained above), and on the General tab, click Normal startup - load all device drivers and services, and then click OK.
    2. Restart your PC

I would suggest using a different image viewer rather than the windows built in one. I myself use FastStone but a lot of people like IrfanView

I tried IrfanView and it Opens with a .BMP. If I try a .JPG it tells me.
    Warning
The file: "Y:\Wallpaper2\Abstract-012.JPG" is A .BMP file incorrect Extension!
    Rename?
    Yes...No
Click YES and It changed .JPG to .BMP. I made the pictures with .BMP and later changed them to .JPG. Now I must change them back to .JPG to be able to use them.

Renaming extensions is not a good idea. If you wanted to change the file format, you can do it in paint.

I have changed .BMP files to .JPG. When I have time I will change some .JPG files to .BMP. That could make as many 100 files require changes.

I started paint and loaded 486 pictures and found I needed to change 35 pictures. Now all 486 are the way they should be. That is the way they will be changed from now on.
