Have computer sitting on it's side and cleaning out the buildup and dust bunnies and such. Think I remember reading somewhere-maybe on the other board-that when blowing out with compressed air that the fans can act as a generator/alternator and maybe produce unwanted voltages if fan spins. Is "old wives tale ", or is true? If true, will hold fan blade stat. and blow away. :) BTW, installed new hs/fan (Swiftech 370) on AMD cpu and it does as advertised by lowering cpu temp by bout 10 to 15 deg. F. .

Yes, it is true that the fan should be held.

I am not sure about becomming a gererator but they can overspeed in reverse.

    PS.
Plsease don't use a metal screwdriver to hold the fan. Cause if blade slip, fan get chiped.

I read the same thing on another message board. I had never thought about it until then. But I guess it would be possible. So now I stick the end of a zip tie into my fans when blowing dust out of them.
