    Hi all

    First, a bit of background.

I run a Windows XP machine, using Talktalk broadband. I am connected wirelessly to an Echolite wireless router, and for the past 3 years I have had no problems.

Last week I bought a brand new laptop running Windows 7 64bit, with the intention of wirelessly networking them together. This was successful, I can wirelessly transfer files etc between computers.

However, the problem comes with the internet connection dropping out. I can run ok on my laptop, but the internet signal will cut out when i turn my XP machine on. The signal may come back on temporarily, but it is very intermittent.

It is as if the computers are not happy to share an internet connection. The internet light on my router will go out when the signal is lost. but the network connection is still established. I cannot pinpoint the exact conditions where the internet is lost and restored.

I have had talktalk run all the line checks and they appear clear.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards

    Gray

What kind of wifi security are you using? WEP or WPA?

Try with no encryption and see if the issue persists. IF OK, try WEP. If OK go back to WPA and see if problem arises again.

    Many apologies for the delay,

I have solved the problem, turns out the router was knackered, bought a new one yesterday, 10x increase in speed, no drop outs, however i do have another issue, which i will ask about in another post.

    Regards
