I open the browser and it instantly goes to the home page with no problem. I click a link on the page and can't go to that page. Most times I get a time out error. I did a diagnostic check for my connection and no problem found. (Well Duh!)

I came to this site. No problem. Went to this page ok but when I tried to read a post the page wouldn't load. I'm surprised I'm able to post this. This didn't start until I reformatted/reinstalled Windows. It happens with IE and FF. Most pages I can get to the home page ok, but any link on that page always times out.

    Like I said I can connect but then I can't. I'm baffled.

Does your install disk contain Service Pack 3. If not, install it. Then install IE8.

Hi DugE. Are you connected to the Internet by a wired or a wireless connection?

My OEM has sp1 installed. I install sp2 and 3. Then IE8. Then Windows Update. Then other programs and update after install.

I'm connected by a wired connection. I installed the software to this as usual. Didn't have a problem until I first tried to browse. Some sites I could get, albeit slow to connect, and others would time out. I checked the connection with my ISP and everything good there. Speed test was up to par.

It does seem normal now. Connections do not time out any more. I assumed the amount of updates installed at one time (100+) made the computer unstable. I think the normal operation (shut down at night, start up in morning, a restart or two during the day) improved it until the computer became stable. It seems as normal as this computer gets anyway so I'll say its resolved.

    Thanks.

Glad to hear all is well.

Thought I'd mention that I had a similar problem - actually, almost identical - and realized the only pages that were loading were coming from the cache. Cleared the cache and things are working well now....... Being really, really bright, it only took me three days to figure it out. What brought it to my attention was the fact that I could open an email link in the Thunderbird email client yet couldn't do so in Firefox...at least not easily
