    Hi there,

I am working on a Power Builder appln in Windows XP. When I am logged in as a Guest user, I am facing some alert messages while the appln tries to write to an appln specific .ini file. But when I am logged in as a Admin or Power user, the alert messages are not seen and the appln is writing into .ini file successfully. This problem was not faced in Windows NT.

Is the problem due to restrictions for a Guest user ? If so, Can you pls let me know abt the previlages/access that are granted/revoked for a Guest user in XP and a solution (may be some changes to the settings) for this problem ?

Timely help will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks a lot.
    - Dhan.

My first suggestion is to disable the guest account and not ever use it. Too many security holes if it is active.

Create user accounts for any who need to use the PC and the application and if needed, you can give them sufficient rights to the specific parts of the PC.

Which version, Home or Pro? Network or stand-alone? If network, peer or domain or what?

    Hi,

The users can be given only Guest access. Are the Guest users restricted from writing into files like .ini which Admin and Power users can ? Pls let me know.

It's XP Professional, Running on a Network - Domain.
