    Save this to a text file:

    Rename it mspaint.reg, double click the file & allow it to merge into your registry. This should fix the problem.

    Sir,

    I copied the text ;
    REGEDIT4

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\image\shell\edit\command]
    @=hex(2):22,25,73,79,73,74,65,6d,72,6f,6f,74,25,5c,73,79,73,74,65,6d,33,32, 5c,\
    6d,73,70,61,69,6e,74,2e,65,78,65,22,20,22,25,31,22,00

    pasted it in a text file, renamed the file as "mspaint.reg" ans saved. Double clicked that file and found that system just opened that file and no any other action taken.
    May be i made any mistake.

    You'll have to select Tools > Folder Options from Windows Explorer's menu. Select the View tab, and uncheck Hide extensions for known file types, click OK.

    You will then discover that your file mspaint.reg is actually named mspaint.reg.txt. Rename to remove the .txt and you're all set. Double click the file it will now work.

    Dear Arie;
    I did as you instructed. System merged it into registry. But problem is the same i.e. System opens the picture in "Windows picture and fax viewer" here i press Ctrl+E and system open the picture in MS Office Picture manager instead of Paint.

    Can't help you further. You'll have to use the advice from Steve R Jones above.

    Further to Steve and Arie

    In Windows Picture and Fax Viewer
    To edit a picture
    Click the Edit button.

    Note

    Editing a picture opens the default picture editor and closes Windows Picture and Fax Viewer.

    Right Click on any .jpg file – Open with – Choose default Program – Select Paint –

    Check the box (Always use this selected program to open) and click OK.

    Barbara,

    Yes, you can do that, but that means the .jpg pictures no longer opens in Windows Picture and Fax Viewer.

    I did the following'
    Click Start > Run > type appwiz.cpl

    Pressed Enter.

    Selected Microsoft Office.

    Click Change > Add or Remove Features > Next > Office Tools > Microsoft Office Picture Manager > make it X Not Available.

    Then opened the picture in Windows picture and fax viewer>>>Ctrl+E>> system opened the picture in paint. Then again did the steps above and enabled the MS Office picture manager. Problem solved.
