Hi, do you have the Canon installation CD that came with your printer?
When you go to > Control Panel > Printers, do you have any printers shown there?
Normally, XP will notice if it recognizes new Hardware and will start the Wizard.
Have you checked in Device Manager to see if you have any Printers installed?
Let's know what the status is. Neil.

    Hi Neil, thanx for responding!

Yes I have the disk, I ran it and it installed some things. But... not the program, or panel, by which I can acces the printer (and the scanner). When I connect the printer to a USB printer a window pops up stating that the device is not recognised. And I also do not see the printer installed, when I look at the Device Manager.

    Hi Guido,
Your printer is connected by USB to your computer - correct?
I would un-install the software completely and start from scratch. (Disconnect the printer and cable)

    Disconnect your Internet connection.
Shut down your Anti-virus protection. (some AV's can be shut down for a 10-15 minute period).
Now load your CD (Canon software) and let it install fully.
Carefully follow the instructions about when to switch on your priinter, and when to connect your USB cable.
Don't rush things or connect before instructed.
Once the disc has completed, run a test print page (if instructed).
When it is all working OK - then enable your AV protection and see if there are any incompatability problems.
If it's all 100% - then reconnect your Internet cable.
I would then go to the Canon web site and Download the latest Drivers if available and install them.
I've had problems in the past where this is the only way to install a printer. Cheers Neil.

Uninstalled all Canon Pixma related sorftware
now, when I plug the printer in a USB port, it IS recognised :)

but, I cannot acces it yet

so I tried to add it to my printers list using add a printer wizard
after a long search on the installation disk for the driver (x86 of x64??) the wizard started copying files, noted that one file could not be copied, and at the end stated the driver could not be installed...

    the cd won't autorun either

    what step's next?

My next step was downloading the MP210 driver from Canon's website
it installed itself, suggested to reboot, which I did...
and now the printer is again not recognized! it pops up, and when I trie to install the printer with the wizard there is no USB port to choose from
    :(
