I use Open Office 3.2 with Windows 7 64 bit, and have used this software Open Office 3.2 for sometime now with good results. An error appears at random when typing information in Text Document, in the form of the font size jumping from 11 to 12 and back to 11 without any prompt from me. The finished Text Document is left with a mixture of font size. Can this error be rectified? as when a change is noticed the size of font is manually changed to preferred size, on starting again font size jumps back to size changed by Open Office 3.2. Can this minor error be rectified, or is this an Open Office 3.2 software error?

Maybe a complete removal of it and a clean install would do the trick. You can use a program like Revo Uninstaller and do a deep clean and then reinstall it. Using Revo this way, there should be NO traces of it ever being on your PC.

    http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html

Do the FREE on on the left. Great little program and I have never had a problem with it even doing the registry changes that it offers to do.

Or better - go with LibreOffice.

Its a fork of OpenOffice but most of the world has now focused its attention on LibreOffice instead of OpenOffice.

Thank you for replies to my Post. I have and have used Revo Uninstaller Registered version for over two years, with excellent results. It is definitely worth trying to remove OpenOffice 3.2. using Revo uninstaller and later reinstalling OpenOffice 3.2. All my text and data files are geared to use OpenOffice 3.2. to open contents of my files and data. However, a note of LibreOffice is filed for any future requirements.

Two notes--As was noted above, 3.2 has been updated to 3.3, and now, 3.4, so I'm not sure why you'd want to reinstall 3.2, especially when you've been having problems.

As far as what your files have been "geared to use," LibreOffice should be able to open and display them in much the same manner as OpenOffice. LO is a fork of OpenOffice, and a very recent one, so there really shouldn't be any real difference between the two. Its much the same program, just that its a version that is offered by different sponsors. Although teh name OpenOffice has brand name appeal, as has been alluded to above, LibreOffice has the support of many former contributors to OpenOffice--in fact, the owners of OpenOffice recently threw in teh towel and gave the OpenOffice project to another foundation, so I'd just use LibreOffice.

OK....was this an update through OpenOffice? Did you go to that LibreOffice link given above? It would be a new download.... If you are failing through the program you currently have, try that LibreOffice link....

    http://www.openoffice.org/download/

Go to the website above and download the latest one. It should install over the old one.
If you have anything you need to save from your original install, make a folder on your desktop and save it there. Then do the download.

The first update was carried out from Help/Check for updates, produced the update failed........ I visited the OpenOffice web site, and downloaded the offered OpenOffice 3.3. Running OpenOfffice 3.3., unfortunately still changes the font sizes at random. The present data is daily added with information. I presume all current data saved would require to be retyped into LibreOffice.

Not sure what you mean by "data is daily added," unless you mean that you re-enter data in your documents, or create new ones.

You wouldn't have to change a thing to install LibreOffice. It's the same program, just promoted by a different group, one that broke away from OpenOffice because the OO project was being controlled by Sun (and then Oracle) too much for the likes of other contributors. So they have a different name.

When you install it you will see what I mean.

Just to clarify, as far as version numbers, LibreOffice is now up to 3.4; I just saw that OpenOffice is still at 3.3.

psaulm119, I have now installed LibreOffice3.4 and indeed is identical to OpenOffice 3.3., I extremely like the design make up and I congratulate you in having made LibreOffice 3.4. known to me, thank you. As OpenOffice 3.3. is just taking up room in my hard drive, it can be removed? I use the said programs for recording the weather data details and temperatures for my local area and each day add new information for future references.

    BobbyScot,
I would assume so, but I wasn't able to find anything on this with a quick google search. I sincerely doubt they are working off the same user data, so I really don't see any harm in uninstalling OO; if others here aren't sure, and you want a more firm response, you can always ask at http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/. On the banner at teh top of their forum page, they explicitly state that they are supporting OO and LibreO as well. I've been a member there although I rarely have occasion to request support, and they are fairly helpful.

I doubt uninstalling OO would break LO but if in the unlikely event it does then reinstalling LO should fix things.

FWIW I just switched to LibreOffice after reading this thread but I uninstalled OpenOffice first.

Short note. I uninstalled OpenOffice 3.3. from hard drive, then proceeded to opened file made in OpenOffice 3.3. and saved as Weather, this produced this file to open in WordPad and not in as hoped in LibreOffice. After some thought, decided to reinstall OO 3.3. when file Weather opened as previously in OO 3.3. In the end uninstalled both OO 3.3. and LO 3.4., reinstalled LO 3.4 and now file Weather file opened as previously, but now in LO 3.4. In my case it proved that LO 3.4. must not be installed before OO 3.3. has been correctly removed from the computer and hard drive if you only have room for title in hard drive.

Did you right click on the weather thing and see what choices you had to open it with? Might of given you a couple of 3 or 4 choices...

As MrBill stated you should have been given the offer to open with LibreOffice when right clicking.

It's a file associations thing, did you allow LibreOffice to take over file associations during the first install? If so perhaps OpenOffice reset them to defaults when you uninstalled it (which it really should not have done).

Anyway problem has been resolved with a reinstall so no harm done.

Your are both correct and I did not right click in LO 3.4. when opening file after instalation. However as you both say, all is well with the LO 3.4. Thank you both.
