Got this message unchecking the Drive Context Indexing box when logged in as Administrator (THE Administrator account, not just any Admin-priv'd account) and UAM set to "Never Notify ".

Is this supposed to happen? Makes no functional or logical sense to me.

Hi sduibek. Even if you set UAC to never notify you when you make changes to your system you may still receive prompts like the one you mentioned.

I would assume yes. Its most likely a design of the Operating System to make it more secure. As long as you can click the Continue button and have the setting work then I wouldn't worry about it.

Yeah, I suppose that makes sense. One of the "improvements" of W7 - Gotta make it idiot-proof, even for system admins, power users, and MVPs! Wait what? ;)

As I have said more then once, that's the worst you can to, setting User Account Control (UAC) to "Never Notify ".

Switching off UAC (that's what you do when setting it to "Never Notify ") weakens Windows security defenses. For example, switching off UAC will make Internet Explorer start with its protected mode switched off.

Internet Explorer's Protected Mode has the advantage that Internet Explorer cannot modify user or system files and settings without your consent. Protected Mode requires you to confirm any activity that tries to put something on your machine or start another program. By using Protected Mode, the likelihood of automated and/or unwanted software installation is reduced.

If you don't have a good security solution you are very likely to have security problems with your PC. With UAC turned off it will be easier for malicious programs to infect your computer and take control of it and/or its settings.
