    Hi
My UK Dell Inspiron laptop runs XP Pro SP3 system. It has started giving system event errors.
There are 2 problems - the second I will post tomorrow.
    Source: W32Time Event ID: 29
    Message:
The time provider NtpClient is configured to acquire time from one or more time sources, however none of the sources are currently accessible. No attempt to contact a source will be made for 29 minutes. NtpClient has no source of accurate time.

I have googled this and found what appeared to be a MS solution specifically for XP with SP3, called 'How to configure an authoritative time server in Windoes XP'. I went to the Fix It button for an external time source MicrosoftFixIt50395.msi and ran it.
It suggests ntp server: server1,0x1 server2,0x1
    Special Poll Interval: 900
    MaxPosPhase Correction: 3600
    MaxNegPhaseCorrection: 3600
and it then reports 'This Microsoft Fixit does not apply to your operating system or application version'
    :(
In systems-Windows Time the path to executable is C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs with Automatic startup and LogOn is set to Local System Account
    Could anyone advise?

Did you try a different time server?

Right-click the clock at the end of the Taskbar and select Adjust Date/Time. Click the Internet Time tab and select a different Server. (I usually have pretty good luck with "time-b.nist.gov" [down here in Florida, U.S.A.]).

    W32Time

    Hi SpywareDr
Thanks for reply. Sometime ago I installed DS Clock and no longer have the one that came with XP (at least not visible).
DS Clock VN2.2 loads on startup and is configured to UK - NPL, UK using Time Server ntp1.npl.co.uk
I know how to synchronize that but don't know how to set that one for W32Time

What is the date, time and size of your c:\windows\system32\w32time.dll file?

    Click Start > Run, type:
    cmd
and press [Enter]. Then at the CMD prompt, type:
    dir c:\windows\system32\w32time.dll

That's the same date and size as seen here. The time on this one is "04:42 AM" but, I don't think that matters.

Do you get the same error with "DS Clock" disabled?

    Hi
I don't know. It gives the option of uninstalling but it took sometime to configure so I don't want to do that! I recall they were both running on the desktop at one time and that I locked the DSClock at the top to the left of the Office bar. I then removed the display of the original clock from the taskbar. How could I restart it or re-display it so I could gain access to the options?

Checking Control Panel - Date and Time I see under Internet Time that 'Automatically synchronise with an internet time server' is ticked and that for time server it says 'time-c.timefreq.bldrdoc.gov' followed by 'An error occured while Windows was synchronizing with ntpdate. The peer is unreachable.'
When I click on Update Now it does so successfully.
But if I go into Control Panel - Date and Time again I get the same error under Internet Time!

As posted here back in May 2011:

So use another time server. Why not use time.windows.com?

I use 128.105.37.11 as the server. Never had any problem with it.

    Hi
Thanks - that's 2 more time servers I can try plus the one I use for DSClock.
Not having the original clock on the desktop I can't see how I can change the time server! Can't find anything using regedit

    Hi Arie
Thanks for pointing out the three time-servers were not functioning. I used the internet time tab to change the time server to time.windows.com and it is now functioning. I will read your article if I still get event errors
    Many thanks:)
