I am running Winodws 7 Home Premium 32 bit and all was fine but three days ago the CD/DVD ROM drives disappeared from Windows ExThey show on the boot screen and show in Device Manager but dbl clicking on them in Device Manager gives an error mesaage that devices won't start. Error code ndicates a driveer corruption problem But driver scans from various driver update programs all show they are o.k. Can't download new ones snce I get the message they are included with Windows 7. Is there a solution? I do have an Acronis image but nore sure what files to restore that are related to the DC/DVD drives. Help. (by the way i have run a system restore and unplugged and re-plugged them on the mother boar).

I had this happen twice when I installed iTunes. Only a system restore worked once, the other time I had to reinstall windows!

guess it has something to do with its device driver. try reinstalling/updating your dvd driver.

Solved the problem with your help

It turned out the problem was caused by iTunes. I used the Microsoft Web site given above ( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/982116) and had to do both the Registry hack and uninstall iTunes to get back to normlal. If I reinstall iTunes, things revert back to no CD/DVD drive. The problem occcurs on a Winodws 7 Home Premium x32 computer. Not sure the same problem existsa on a x64 syste or not.

Another contributor above mentioned they had the problem with iTunes so that comment helped a lot also.

    Thanks everyone.
