Ok here we go....I messed up I admit it, LOL....Im at a clients residence and I tried to repair xp using the Xp disk at bootup...

I went through the process as if I was installing XP and did not get the repair screen.. So it just reloaded XP...I did not format the partition it just reloaded XP... Also the system has a dual boot with Win 98 on Part. 1....Arent the restore files stored on the 98 partition? If not I still see the old documents and settings on the second partition under documents and settings "Darren "....

What can I do? And what what will be lost? All the documents pictures etc. are still in the old documents and settings folder....

Please help its cold in this car on my laptop...LOL

    OS reload

All the pgms and files were gone.. But it looks like they are still in another file named documents and settings just trying to figure out how to restore them..And it looked like a barebones install....Please email me @ pcmedx@comcast.net if possible.. Or if you have a messenger please let me know which one and your user name so we can correspond quicker...

Also I I backed up thiose files on a seperate HD and am now gonna try to restore them using XP restore looks like it may work with little data loss...File size is 2.9 gigs...About what was on the old XP...Wish me luck...LOL

Im now completing the High speed internet hookup ...Cabling Etc..So I wont look as dumb as I feel...

    ok ok

I think I figured out why it wont load the backup....The system has a partioned hd with win98, 1st partition, XP second, and a slave HD With XP... When I loaded XP it changed the drive letters before it was C:win 98, d:XP, slave G:XP backup. Now it reads C:win98, D: xp Backup, E:XP....WOO.. Confused yet??

So heres what I tried: I backed up the documents and settings that were on the E: drive which were the original files before all this mess and restored them on the d: drivewhich is now the slave. All files and pgms did not make it but most did....So this tells me that those giles are all saved as the D:\ because I restored them on the Slave drive that became the new d:\. And used restore to original location....WOO

So the question as you all know is how can I get the E:\ to be d:\ just to restore the files...This will probably not work because the we would then have 2 d:\...But I will cross that bridge when I come to it.....

Its late so bare with me fellas....All nighter

Just got back on the site.

Read all that you posted and now have no real idea what is going on. I fell off the truck going around one of your turns I think. :D

    Please clarify if you will:

    - will the system boot to 98?
    - will the system boot to XP?
    - where are boot.ini and the other NT startup files located now?
    - can you see all the present contents of all the partitions?
    - what stuff are you missing from where?
