Well i know it's silly but MIDI cables are so expensive. Anyway i bought a 3.5m stereo audio jack to plug from my kryboard's headphone socket into the line-in socket on my computer.

It records what i play just fine, no problems, but i can't even hear anything as i'm playing it and that's kinda important.

I'm pretty sure that i did it on an old keyboard as i have the recorded songs to prove it but with this i just can't hear what i'm playing. The socket on the keyboard says aux/phones so i know it should work.

Is there any possible reason as to why i can't actually hear anything? I'm baffled by it to be honest lol.

My soundcard is RealTek HD Audio and i'm using XP Home.

Any help would be appresciated :D

The sound would be coming from Line Out/Speaker Out socket. What have you connected over there ?

It sounds like (no pun intended) the problem is the keyboard. Most all audio devices disable speaker volume when using the headphone jack.

If the keyboard has a separate Line Out jack, use that.

Other possible solution is to listen via the computer speakers. To do this, you must access the Sound applet in Control Panel and select the correct source, or the recording software must have the correct source selected. One can select the source when recording with software such as Audacity.
