    I have a ASUS motherboard M4N78Pro
I am running Windows 7 as my main OS, on one HD and Vista as a backup os on another HD (not plug into the power supply)as a backup If I get hit by a virus,
I downloaded and installed AHCI and us a esata all is Good . I have 6 Sata Jacks on The MB SATA 1 thru 4 are in Red as color coded, and all in use.
Sata 4 Thru 6 are Black in color and not in use, they will not function if I plug a connector to them.
The Manual say's Sata 5 and 6 connectors support AHCI mode and Raid mode only. Make sure to install the AHCI driver or Raid driver in the bungled support software DVD before connecting devices to Sata 5 and 6.
do I have to go into BIOS to turn these on ? I alread download AHci drivers long time past and use Ahci already and MB Bios is set to AHCI

According to the manual SATA's 5 & 6 only support SATA drives - what are you trying to connect?

    Moved to Hardware.

Pete, its most likely a typo. I think he means ESATA & not ESATS.

reinfo Yes - you are right I'm sure :) Should be eSATA I think.

    John
Yes - Have you set the SATA Mode Select to AHCI Mode as indicated in the manual - Section 2.3.7 Storage Configuration on page 2-11?
