I am pretty sure that I've been able to see other computers on my laptop display (with an earlier laptop), but yesterday, after plugging in a desktop (via VGA cable) in my vga port on my new laptop, I was unable to do this. I went into the control panel and didn't see any options--the only one in there was to project the laptop itself onto a projector. I pressed the Fn+F5 key, which for my laptop adjusts the settings for dislpaying the images onto a projector, but didn't see anything there either.

Is my laptop's vga port just for exporting my laptop's own image? I was sure it was a two-way street.

The VGA port on your laptop is for output only (ie a 2nd display for your laptop).

The only way I can imagine viewing another system on your laptop's display is via some Remote Desktop software.

OK, then maybe I "misremembered" something from the past, but I sure thought I was able to do that.

    OK thanks

You might try join.me, (it's free).

Step 1: On your Desktop, go to join.me, click on "share ", and you'll then see a 9-digit number at the top center of the screen.

Step 2: On your Laptop, go to join.me, type in that 9-digit number in the "join" box and then click the arrowhead (go) button.

That's all there is to it. You should now be viewing your Desktop computer screen on your Laptop.
