I would use system restore, only, as a last resort. It seems that you are not opening with your profile. Take a look at your shortcut icon/Properties/Target. You should have something like this:
(never mind about my Firefox8, you should have Program Files, etc.). Now type in -p, after the firefox.exe ". with a space in front of the dash. It should look like this: firefox.exe" -p
Press Apply/ok. Now try to open Firefox. You will get the profile manager. Are you seeing more than one thing, there? Your Bpookmarks, and everything else should be in your profile, which, unless you put it in a different place, should be in: C:\Documents and Settings\your name\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles. Each profile has some letters and numbers.a name (likef1h2j4pp.default)

By the way is this problem a FireFox problem? I'm asking because in IE that one has a favorites on it but located in a different place. I haven't used IE in years so not much there. Anyway the favorites on Fire Fox has always been at the very top line. So since it was FF that crashed the other day and now it's gone that means this has to be a FF problem not my windows or anything like that correct?
I did a lot of reading on FF, but can't find anything. I guess what i'm asking am i wasting time looking else where and need to look at FF for the fix of this?
I sure would like to get this back it could have taken any other thing out but why my favorites....

Thank you all again. I know how hard you work helping people and i don't think you even get payed so you all rock..

System Restore helps you restore your computer's system files to an earlier point in time. It's a way to undo system changes to your computer without affecting your personal files, such as e‑mail, documents, or photos.

Sometimes, the installation of a program or a driver can cause an unexpected change to your computer or cause Windows to behave unpredictably. Usually, uninstalling the program or driver corrects the problem. If uninstalling does not fix the problem, you can try restoring your computer's system to an earlier date when everything worked correctly.

Fully agree here. System Restore isn't a 'silver bullet' for every little problem. It can get you out of a pickle if you install an incompatible driver or if you make a change to your registry that cripples Windows... Or something to try as a last resort... but never the start of troubleshooting.

. And, they are called Bookmarks.
This could be a Profile problem, and the Bookmarks are located are located in the Profile.
In the simplest case, the Profile would be located in: C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles. The App. Data folder is hidden, by default, so you have to make sure that your windows settings in Tools/Folder Options/View are set to view hidden folders. Your profile will have a name like this: letters and numbers.default. There are a number of files connected to the bookmarks, and an obvious one is bookmarks.html. If it is present, and it has a size of 100 Kb, or more you have the file, but something may be broken in bringing it up. The simplest approach is to create a new profile, using the Profile Manager. If you don't have clue of what I am talking about, then you will need more help.

First I want to thank you all for trying to help me. I really do mean that, I just kept thinking it has to be a FF think for sure then my gut kept telling me it can't be that hard.
I clicked on tools then options it pulled up the menu of like all the add-ons and plug ins etc.. there it was half of them where disabled. I click the ones i wanted and the very last one said old favorites. restarted and there it was.
I'm so happy it's back haha.
Thanks again to all you that helped made me do something i wouldn't normally do on my own.
