Its amazing to think there are apparently people who fall for this stuff.

You'll have to be seriously lacking in the IQ department.

Wow, unbelievable. I've actually gotten a few e-mails like that in the past and I can't resist laughing a bit to myself with how ridiculous those e-mails sound.

The sad thing about those scams is that people fall for those a lot. Just like when folks will pay for a rogue security program and get scammed out of their cash. Oh well, those users learn eventually to not always accept every e-mail that lands in their inbox.

Send directly to ISP spam filter

I get those types of e-mails frequently, at least three or four per month. I just forward them as an attachment directly to my ISP's spam filter database. Never see them again.

Yea, normally they get filtered out, but sometimes there's a few minutes the filter isn't running when it's updating itself... I get probably < 10 a year...

Ditto, and I don't believe I'm using WindowsBBS filters either, even on my throwaway accounts I rarely see them. It does make you wonder what people are doing to get added to these lists though?

It's not always stupid people who fall for these.

I know an intelligent guy, college graduate, keeps current on world affairs but who wanted so badly to believe the plea for donations to fund a children's charity in Africa were real that he got taken for about $400 before he got suspicious and stopped sending money.

I'm not completely sure he ever figured out it was just a variation on the classic Nigerian scam, though.

How about an email from Ailysha Gaddafi wanting me to help her save her Dad's millions before it was "sized" by the Rebels.
Gaddafi wasn't even cold or buried at the time I received the request.
Made me laugh before I hit Shift + Delete. Neil.

I've seen some guys on other sites spend a bunch of time replying to these mails..They string em along for a long time.

I've also seen 60 Minutes meet the bad guys in person:eek:

I would say it would be more believable if the amounts asking for were smaller and the letter less intense. Something like this:

I am in need of some money and am asking for a donation of $1, $5 or whatever you see fit to send. I really appreciate your support. If you can't help, then you are probably in the same boat I am and good luck to you.

The thing is KAL some people do get sucked in precisely because there is a reward (and greed dictates the bigger the better).

As Miz pointed out though there are those lesser scams which only ask for a few dollars at a time and offer no reward. To me they are probably worse, instead of preying on the greedy and stupid they are effectively stealing money from charities.
