I wrote an email letter to many recipients and saved it as a template. How do I use that letter with modifications every week to send to te recipients?
    Thanks.

Compose the message, add the To: and BCCs and save it as a template. Then, open the template, modify it and send it.

    Tony ...

I have no need for templates, but I (foolishly) followed your instructions. Now I have a Templates folder that I cannot seem to get rid of.

    Any thoughts?

    Hi Jim,
I haven't seen your posts for a while and I'm sorry I started a thread that has caused you some grief.
I have a template but when I open it in Thunderbird, I can not add any text to it nor can I find a button to send it anywhere??
I've kind of given up on the idea of using it.
    Bob

I haven't tried to delete it but I stopped worrying about things like that because my hard drives are pretty empty and a few extra bits are not going to hurt anyone :)

No problem about causing me grief ... I brought it on myself.:)

Weird that you can't modify or send a message created from a template. I just tried it on a test template (TB 8.0), and I was able to add text and send the test message to myself with no difficulty.

There's an extension called Toolbar Buttons, which I've used for years, that allows you to add buttons for all sorts of purposes to the toolbars of either FF or TB. You can use it to add a Send button to your composition windows.

As far as deleting the unnecessary Templates folder is concerned, it's not a matter of disk space. If I don't need it I don't want it, especially since I didn't have it before.

    Ackerberg,

Thanks for starting the thread. I had never thought of using an e-mail template but decided to give it a try - and I think it's great.

I think your problem adding text is that when you click on the templates folder ( which apparently creates automatically when you generate your first template) all you see is a list of template/s. You must double click on the template you want to use, then it becomes editable - add or delete addressees, add or delete text, and the "Send" button appears. I think the the revised template, after you click on "Send ", reverts back to the original unless you save the revision as a template - which would then give you two templates in your Templates Folder.

I somehow get a feeling that Tony is lurking out there, enjoying himself, watching us all learn how to use Thunderbird templates.

Jim, to get rid of the "Template" folder you will have to log on to your ISP webmail server and delete it from there. I did the same thing you did "tried it out" and then found it wouldn't delete, but managed to delete it directly from my webmail. When you open up TB is should delete itself as there is no longer a Templates folder on the ISP mail server.

BTW, I access my ISP mail server through the IMAP server and not a POP account.

    Hi John,

    Thanks for the response.

Unfortunately, your solution doesn't work for me. The Templates folder is in my Thunderbird program on my computer. No Templates folder exists on my ISP's webmail server. Your solution probably worked for you because you use IMAP, rather than POP, which I use.

In your TB profile ../Mail/Local Folders will be 2 template files, Templates & Templates.msf, delete them.

    Thanks, Tony, that did it.

The files actually were in the Mail folder, itself ... no Local Folders subfolder.

    1. Compose the message,

2 add the To: and BCCs

    3. File Menu > SaveAs > and save it as a template.

    4. Close the message.

    5. Then, click Templates folder,

    6. Then double-click the template to open the template,

    7. to modify it and send it.

    Virginia,
You get the GOLD STARS *** for your answer. I just needed to double click the template and that allowed me to edit and send it.
Well, I'm happy this topic turned out to be informative and interesting for everyone, so now we all know how to use a template in Thunderbird.
    Thanks for everyone's help.

Near the top of your thread you'll see Thread Tools. Click the down arrow to expand the drop down menu, at the bottom of it you'll see Mark this thread as solved. Click on it to mark your thread as solved.

If later you find that the problem has returned, and you had previously marked your thread as solved, follow the steps above. Instead 'Mark this thread as solved' you will see that in this case Mark this thread as unsolved is listed.

Please read the User Guide for more information.
