have just been told there is a way to reset a password in windows 7. i understand its a variable within the user acct but what happens if user doesnt do that is there a way to reset the password with a bootable cd ???

every site i go to when i google this problem my 2012 version of avira says the web site is not a good web site to go to. so if anyone has the answer for this i would greatly appreciate it.

    Please see posting rules #6

If a user forgets his password it would be down to the Administrator to sort it, if the Admin forgets it, then a reinstall of the OS is the most likely outcome.

wasnt trying to break any bbs rules but even windows 7 gives one the ability to create a password reset cd, dvd or usb flash drive so i thought there was a legal way of doing this.

lost of web sites offer software to do this when i googled the problem and even the manufacturer in this case being asus apparently offers a reset variable so i was just wondering if there was a legal way to do this.

this is not a situation when an administrator is involved its a home user.

    Fair enough but...

    1) You didn't ask about preventative measures (ie password reset disk) see What to do if you forget your Windows password for this.

    2) If Asus has a solution and you have proof of ownership then use it if required.

    3) Even home systems need administrators.

i know that link you gave and like i said windows 7 does give one the ability to create a reset password disk. not many of my users need password on windows cuz they are home users but some do and if they dont create the reset variable at the time they create a password i guess they are *******.
