ok, say I fork out the 80-90 bucks, is my xp data, browser info, etc. transferable to 7 home edition 64 bit? Would I be experienced enough to backup(if transferable), install the os, and load the backup(if transferred)?

    1) Without knowing what your "xp data" might consist of, it's hard to say. IE favorites wouldn't be a problem, nor would most pics, doc, xls, pdf, etc. In fact, I don't remember having a problem opening any of my personal data files after moving to Windows 7 64-bit. The only problem I do remember was the lack of a 64-bit driver for an aging scanner and ancient printer.

    2) I'm afraid I haven't a clue as to whether you're experienced enough. I do know that you'll never gain any experience though until you jump in and try. :)

That would take care of loading new Windows on to your system, but you have to take backup of everything you need before doing this- this includes documents, pictures, music, video, mails & browser bookmarks at the least. You may or may not have more data like financial records etc. which you may want to keep.

Last of my questions, I have fixed the problem for the most part, it seems it was related to the registry and java, anyways, I deleted the java registry. It works much faster, but I think I should still upgrade. There are a few different home editions that I saw for windows 7, one was 32-64 bit, I saw one that was home premium ed., upgrade ones. Which one am I looking for?

Going by your system specs you're probably looking at Windows 7 Home Edition 64bit Upgrade.

Cool, thanks. About the java registry, apparently, java still doesn't know how to make a proper uninstall program for at least 64 bit. Version. I went into my registry found some oddly named java registry file/remanent, mix of #'s it looked like. Anyways, said java, but from an older version, deleted it, restarted, fixed mostly.... Hangs at least.

Wow, for a Beginner/Intermediate computer user you are much more advanced & risk taking than the experienced like us. I won't touch the registry until & unless absolutely necessary.

I guess youth exuberence has its plus points.

Done as requested, now runninh 64 bit windows 7, still **** out of luck with time warner internet though... Anyways, I know if you ***** with registry too much, you have to clean reinstall at times. Simply got sick of hang ups and risked it to reduce frustration, wasn't blindly deleting, had done research to avoid critical mistakes that could have resulted, thanks again anyways.
