Had an interesting situation with Outlook Express 6 today that I've not experienced before.

When I first opened OE this morning it operated as usual, i.e. logged in automatically and downloaded the mail sitting on the server. As is my habit, when I was done reading my mail I pressed the Send/Receive button one last time prior to closing the program to see if there was any other mail on the server. When I did this the User Name/Password Box for my Pop3 account opened. The password line contained a password and the Remember Password box was checked. I deleted the *****, re-entered the password, clicked OK and OE checked for new mail as it should. Just to see what would happen I pressed Send/Receive again and the User Name/Password box opened once again.

I then opened the Pop3 Account, deleted the password, re-entered the password and tried again. Again OE checked for mail as it should, but when I pressed the Send/Receive button the same problem occurred. I then deleted my Temp Internet Files, Temp files, and History, Rebooted and noted that the same thing occurred.

Beings I had to get to work I didn't have any more time to work on the issue and left it until tonight. When I got home tonight I discovered that OE is working fine and I am unable to replicate the problem.

The only changes made to my system recently was that I downloaded and installed the latest cumulative patch for IE6 from Microsoft yesterday.

So, my question is; Could this situation have been caused by the MS update and if so why did it go away as mysteriously as it appeared, or could the situating have been caused by a problem with my Internet provider?

    Any thoughts?

Usually occurs when there is a problem with your mail server. Has happen to me a couple of times, when it does. I just close OE, and check the mail later.

I'll second the thought of problems with the mail server. There may be nothing wrong on your end. Sometimes these problems will go on for days.

Thanks for the responses and the OE Link. The problem has not occurred again, leading me concur that it must have been a problem with my ISP.

    Thanks again,

    Rod
