Acer netbook - black screen on bootup

    Hello
    My daughter was using her net book to do some word processing when the screen went black and the following message came up.


    Intel UNDI, PXE-2.1 (build 082
    copyright (c) 1997-2000Intel corporation
    For Atheros PCIE Ethernet Controller v1.0.0.13(2000/10/15


    Check cable connection ..!
    PXE-MOF:Exiting Intel PXE ROM
    No bootable device --insert boot disk and press any key

    I tried to restart but the same screen appears
    thank you to anyone with a thought.

    The error indicates that it can't find the hard drive... Make certain there isn't a cd/dvd in the cd/dvd drive.

    Steve, most (if not all?) netbooks don't have a CD/DVD drive.

    raytraci, It looks like the hard drive has failed, since it isn't able to find a bootable device.

    I agree with Arie. Seems you have a failed hard drive. I don't know about your skill level but if you can boot from a USB device and the system starts to boot, it will confirm that the hard drive has failed .

    Thank you all for your help the net book has moved on to a better place were hard drives are not required.
