Can someone please explain to me what setting to select, to get ANY file or folder that I recently create, to be placed on the right side of any documents/files on teh desktop?

I "m not asking for everything to get pushed all the way to the right side, just for any new file or folder, to be the to the right of everything else. Hope this makes sense.

I believe when I first got this laptop this was how it was, but after a bit of customizing I can't figure out what to do now to bring it back.

Right click on an empty space on the Desktop and in the menu that opens, point the cursor at "View." In the submenu that opens, left click on "Arrange icons to grid. "

Then right click on the Desktop again and this time point at "Sort by" and in the submenu, left click "By date modified. "

If that's not exactly right, play with the "Sort by" choices until you find one that is what you want.

Just in addition to Miz's suggestion (a minor correction it's "Align Icons to Grid "), if you select sort by... a second time then it will reverse the order (eg instead of later to earlier it'll switch to earlier to later).

Anyway there is plenty of options in the menu to arrange your desktop, well worth exploring.
