There are lots of good anti-virus software options out there. I've used McAffee, Eset, and Norton. I currently use Norton at least partly because it is provided free of charge by my internet provider.

Agree with the above. I have used Norton and McCrappy but that was years ago and both of them burned me. AVG FREE never had a problem with it for years. I started using M$ Security Essentials and love it. Been using it since it came out.

Hi Harri, Welcome to Windowsbbs! :)

There are many threads on this topic already and many people have different opinions on this matter but I'll add my 2 cents.

I would have to give my vote to Microsoft Security Essentials as well. Its light on system resources, its easy to use and best of all its free.

Norton Internet Security 2012 and/or Norton 360 2012 is about as good as it gets. You get what you pay for in spite of what others may claim. I've had MSE and the fact is, it's missed things that Norton found. I don't mind paying for a suite that is rated top of the heap by PC World (and I don't buy that PC World and other tech magazines are influenced by advertising money and would therefore compromise their integrity). Banking and making purchases are two things I engage in and therefore I want the best that money can buy and that is Norton.

BUT... as far as a free security suite is concerned, MSE is certainly among the best.

Fact is leushino (and I worked for PC World) they do (at least used to) have a lucrative deal with symantec just to keep Norton's name in the limelight.

That may be but it does not necessarily translate into a biased review. Additionally, most technical magazines report the same thing; Norton is simply the best available today.

But we all knew from the git-go that there would be a variety of answers AND that Norton would be denigrated by those who believe AV should be free and that Norton is resource heavy (which it isn't). I knew my two cents would be slammed but it's my opinion and I stand by it.

Anything which works, doesn't make your computer & you to goto sleep and doesn't cost the earth is ok with me.

The truth is every antivirus has its pros & cons and nothing is 100%. If you don't use your common sense then nothing in the world can help you.

    My 2 cents.
